File Decoying
File Decoying is a process which makes piracy very difficult through the creation of thousands of legal Decoy Files which compete directly with the illegal Pirate Files. These Decoy Files can contain random data and/or information on where to purchase a legitimate copy of the product (e.g. www.amazon.com).The legal Decoy Files compete directly with the illegal Pirate Files for market share on the Bittorrent websites where most piracy occurs. They compete in such numbers that finding a real illegal Pirate File can be like finding a needle in a haystack.
The illegal Pirate Files will be still on these sites, but they will be justly out-competed by the legal Decoy Files, making real piracy highly difficult and not worth the effort.
This is similar to how thousands of legal, legitimate websites compete with the less numerous pirate websites on the same topic of offering products, making the legal websites the first sites users see and the illegal ones hard to find amongst the thousands of legal, legitimate sites.
